Selected for inclusion based on demonstrating impact, expertise and professional distinction, Mr. Cole is a leading innovator in curriculum design for ordnance disposal and counter-improvised explosive device operations.
From The Navy To Global Humanitarian Work
Mr. Cole’s more than 25 years of service in the U.S. Navy laid the foundation for his expertise. He advanced through roles such as readiness and training officer and division head for nuclear ordnance disposal at Naval School Explosive Ordnance Disposal before transitioning to civilian service. “Every lesson I design or deliver is meant to save lives. That is the ultimate mission behind training and education in this field,” Mr. Cole said.
Following his military career, Mr. Cole became a subject matter expert for the U.S. Department of State’s Office of Weapons Removal and Abatement. He managed clearance projects across Iraq under the Worldwide Weapons Destruction Support Services initiative, coordinating efforts with the United Nations, the Iraqi Directorate of Mine Action and international partners. His leadership facilitated the safe return of thousands of displaced civilians to their homes. He later directed course development for the United Nations Peacekeeping Forces, creating an eight-course curriculum to standardize explosive hazard education across Africa. “When every nation teaches the same procedural and safety standards, the world becomes a safer place,” Mr. Cole explained, emphasizing the importance of standardized training in humanitarian contexts.
An Authority In Education And Leadership
Mr. Cole’s commitment to teaching extends globally. His curriculum design has assisted military and peacekeeping entities in Ukraine, Iraq and Africa in applying the International Mine Action Standards. His academic contributions include publications such as The Journal of Conventional Weapons Destruction and co-authoring “Ultimate EOD Electronics Reference Guide,” a technical manual for bomb technicians.
Holding a bachelor’s degree in business administration and human resources management from Columbia Southern University, Mr. Cole values continued learning. “Education doesn’t end when the degree is framed,” he explained. “In this profession, knowledge evolves daily and so must we.”
His memberships include the International Association of Bomb Technicians and Investigators, reflecting his commitment to collaboration and ongoing development. His service has earned him numerous military honors, including the Bronze Star, Joint Service Commendation Medal and Navy Commendation Medal.
Inspiring Service Beyond Duty
Colleagues describe Mr. Cole as driven by humility and purpose. He actively supports the Special Olympics and encourages service-minded leadership. Having worked under high-pressure conditions worldwide, he mentors future EOD professionals with the same calm and dedication that marked his naval career.
His impact, measured not only in operations completed but in knowledge shared and lives saved, establishes him as a key figure in global explosives safety, humanitarian progress and defense education.
