How Investability Is Changing The Way Small Caps Talk To Capital

Small and mid-cap companies face more pressure than ever to cut through the noise, clarify their value, and win investor support. That’s where Sydney-based investor relations consultancy Investability comes in – helping ASX-listed businesses craft sharper narratives, reach better-aligned capital, and build long-term investor confidence.

Founded in 2020, the Sydney-based investor relations consultancy has supported more than 70 clients across mining, decarbonisation, technology, and financial services in raising more than $1 billion in equity and advising on M&A transactions worth over $450 million.

Unlike traditional PR agencies, Investability doesn’t advertise. Its client base is built through broker referrals, banker networks and reputation. With a lean team and a sharp focus on results, the firm supports ASX, LSE, and TSX-listed companies with capital markets messaging, digital campaigns, roadshow coordination, investor engagement, and strategic content production.

Founder Blends Capital Markets With Communication

At the helm is Dannika Warburton, a former investment banker with a background in both underground mining and institutional finance. Her career spans global investment banks (Citi, GMP Securities), hedge funds, and boutique advisory firms, giving her a rare edge in translating technical stories for capital markets audiences.

While the firm’s roots are in resources, its reach now spans clean energy, sustainability, and emerging tech sectors, requiring both technical fluency and message discipline. Warburton collaborates directly with managing directors, boards, and executive teams, helping sharpen their narratives ahead of IPOs, capital raises, and milestone announcements.

Targeting Australia’s SMSF Investor Base

As of the June quarter, Australia’s self-managed superannuation sector now controls over $1.05 trillion in assets across roughly 1.2 million members increasingly seeking direct investment opportunities. This trend has transformed the retail investor landscape and Investability has adjusted its tactics accordingly.

In one campaign for an ASX-listed junior explorer, Investability helped drive a 5300% increase in online impressions and a 600% lift in average traded value—while doubling the company’s online investor audience in three months.

“Active retail investors demand access and authenticity,” says Warburton.

“They expect direct, timely communication – prompt responses to queries, video explainers from management, regular webinars, and curated updates through newsletters that include media coverage and analyst research. The days of relying solely on ASX releases are long gone.”

A High-Touch, Selective Approach

Investability doesn’t aim for volume. It works with a selective client list, typically CEOs and chairpersons via referrals and long-term relationships. Its service model is deliberately high-touch, with an emphasis on precision messaging, strong networks, and measurable traction.

To further connect companies with capital, Investability hosts a series of curated investor events offering listed companies a platform to present directly to targeted investor audiences. Attendance at recent client events has grown from under 20 to more than 700 participants, reflecting rising demand for intimate, high-quality investor access.

Looking Ahead: Tools, Data and Smarter Metrics

Investability is now building its own investor sentiment tracking tools and developing a strategic analytics partnership. Among the initiatives is the ASX Investability Index, a proprietary scoring system that will rank listed companies on governance, innovation, positioning and investor communication quality.

“Share price is just one metric,” Warburton explains.

“We’re helping companies develop better feedback loops so they understand how they’re perceived.”

As the capital markets landscape becomes more competitive, Warburton believes that data-led insights and smarter engagement strategies will become critical to attracting long-term capital.

Navigating Market Shifts And New Investor Behaviour

Investor behaviour is changing fast. The influence of digitally native investors, often younger, self-directed and values-driven is reshaping communication norms.

Australia’s ETF industry surpassed $300b in funds under management in late-2025, reflecting strong appetite for low-cost, diversified exposure. On the listings front, the ASX recorded 67 new listings in 2024, up ~49% on 2023 – and activity in 2025 has continued to build from that base. For investor relations teams, the takeaway is clear: clarity, creativity and compliance must work together to win attention and trust.

“We’re not trying to be the biggest,” says Warburton.

“We’re trying to be the most respected, and that comes from being trusted, delivering results, and being excellent to work with.”
