Community Turns Out for Mental Health Research

On Saturday, February 14, 2026, the Hope for Depression Research Foundation celebrated the eighth anniversary of its signature Race of Hope to Defeat Depression 5K Walk & Run at Bradley Park in Palm Beach. The morning brought together more than 1,200 participants, including men, women, and children, united around mental health awareness and the need for accelerated research into depression and anxiety.

Organizers reported the event had raised more than $1.1 million and counting, setting a new benchmark to support HDRF’s research into potential new treatments. HDRF Founding Chair Audrey Gruss and Advisory Council Member Scott Snyder, both Palm Beach residents, served as co-grand marshals for the 8 a.m. start.

A Bright Morning on the Lake Trail

With the start signal, runners and walkers began the 3.1-mile route from Bradley Park, taking in the scenery along the Palm Beach Lake Trail. The start corrals reflected a wide mix of participants, from competitive runners to casual walkers, plus families with children and dogs and teams representing local businesses and community organizations.

Many participants wore custom race apparel in HDRF’s signature yellow, creating a striking visual against clear skies and palm trees. The Race of Hope is a USA Track and Field-sanctioned event, adding to its standing as a competitive and community-focused race.

Awards, Recognition, and Ongoing Support

After the finish, Audrey Gruss thanked attendees before awards were presented to top finishers and leading fundraisers. In remarks during the program, Gruss credited the Palm Beach community for making the annual event possible and emphasized HDRF’s commitment to advancing science and reducing stigma surrounding depression.

Among the honors, Duniel Viera was named the top overall male finisher and Niki Desjardin the top overall female finisher. Team Le Bilboquet Palm Beach received top fundraising team recognition after raising $29,207.58, while Grace Walker earned top individual fundraiser after raising $13,435, and The Colony Hotel team, led by Captain Sarah Wetenhall, was recognized as the largest team with 56 members.
